Everyone has seen someone out there taking a selfie. However for one tourist a selfie almost cost him his life. While on a trip in Peru Jarad Frank decided he wanted to take a picture next to a freight train, and he got just a little to close. The video which has gone viral with more than 11 million views shows, the conductor clearly yells at Jarad followed by a kick to the head to get him to move out of the way. So remember when taking selfies next to a moving object, please make sure that object isn’t close enough to hit you. Around The Web – Watch Out Where You Take A Selfie
Saying Goodbye To Another Internet Original – Winamp
Long before we had iTunes, Google Music, Pandora and all the other current music services, we had software like Winamp. Originally released on April 21, 1997, Winamp became the go to software during the late 90’s. Yesterday, a post appeared on the Winamp site announcing
Winamp.com and associated Web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be available for download. Please download the latest version before that date. See release notes for latest improvements to this last release. Thanks for supporting the Winamp community for over 15 years.
Q&A – Quick Fix For A Misbehaving iPad / iPhone
I received this question in a message last week, for the 1st time, and since then I have had 5 others ask. I know 5 isn’t a lot, but if 5 are asking always assume 50 are having the issue. The other 45 just don’t know who to ask or what to ask. So here is a quick Q&A answer to a misbehaving iPad question. Misbehaving iPad / iPhone
PROBLEM: My iPad screen has decided it likes the horizontal position and will NOT let me get her back on her feet. I know about the “Lock Rotation” button, and it is in the “off” position. I can’t seem to get her off her back. It’s driving me nuts because while I can position the iPad vertically and can see the home screen icons VERTICALLY, when I click on something, say Facebook, Pinterest, or even Words with Friends, it gets horizontal again and I CANNOT for the life of me, get her to rotate vertically.
Sooooooo……. any ideas? Advice?
Solution to Mac Error “The Software for this printer is currently unavailable”
When you are using a Mac, people expect things to just work. For installing a printer, I should just click when it lists the printers (Under system preferences – printer), click Add, and the Mac should do the rest. That’s why people buy Macs because they just work…..or do they? One of the errors I’ve been coming across more and more involves the following error message when trying to install a printer. Solution to Mac Error “The Software for this printer is currently unavailable”
The software for this printer is currently unavailable. Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software.
What will happen when you see that error message, is that the installation will not complete and you will not be able to use the printer with your Mac. For those running into this issue (like I was with a number of clients), here are the 3 solutions I found that fixed the issue
Solution #1
If you get that error when attempting to install the printer, cancel your installation. Followed by clicking on the Apple logo on the top left of your screen (it’s the Apple Menu Bar) and selecting Software Update after connecting the printer, this will trigger the successful download of the correct drivers. Once the download is completed, the Add Printer option should automatically install the printer once selected.
Solution #2 (If #1 Didn’t work)
If after you run the Apple Software Update, you still have the issue, do the following
- Open Launchpad -> click on System Preferences
- Now click on the Print & Scan icon inside the System Preference window.
- And inside the printer window, either hold the control key (on the keyboard) and click on the printer or right mouse click over the list of printers.
- When you see the box that says “Reset Printing System”, click here
What this will do is uninstall all of your printers, and reset the Mac Printer software. Once reset you will have to reinstall all of your printers (if you have more than 1), but you should now be able to install them with no problems.
Solution #3 (If both 1 and 2 have failed)
My issue happened when trying to install a Brother 2270 DW printer. I will list the drivers for that printer in section #3, however, these same steps work with any other model printer (just insert the name of your printer into these instructions)
Download the driver from Brother (or from the website of whatever printer manufacturer you have) and double-click the downloaded one. Run the install from that download, like normal. When the installation completes you will find that the printer is still not listed in your printer list. At this point, do the following
- Click the plus on the Printer and Scanner window and select the printer “Add other printer and scanner”
- Once that next window opens, select the printer.
- Now on the bottom choice change “Print Using” to Other and browse to the folder where you downloaded the original file that you installed at the beginning of step 3.
- In the next window search for your model printer, and select your printer.
- Following the remaining install process (which you can leave as default)
Your printer should now complete the installation process.
