In our always connected, always-on life, one thing that doesn’t always happen is a reboot of the cell phone or tablet. Everything you do on your device uses resources. When you open an app you use 10% of your resources (as an example), when you close that app you get back 8%. Eventually, you lose enough resources that things top working properly.
You would think, OK I’ll just restart my phone and that will fix things, and yes usually it will but not always. As a norm, if you restart your device, Android will bring it back in its last state, and if it’s messed up, it may still be after a normal reboot. That is where the Force Restart comes in.

As noted, if a regular restart doesn’t cut it to resolve your issue, doing the Force Restart is the next step in trying to get things back to normal. For many issues, the Force Restart is enough to solve your issue.
- To do this, follow these steps:
- Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it.
- Press and hold the power key while holding down the volume button.
- Keep both keys held down together until the logo for your Android device shows on the screen.
Final Thought
A periodic reboot of any device is always a good idea. With a reboot, drivers and apps from the system get reloaded. The system releases memory that the device can use again. Overall your device should work more fluently and faster after the reboot.
