Deal Alert for anyone looking to buy a pair of Beats Headphones. Amazon has The Beats Studio 3 Headphones on sale for 57% off. Today’s post will go over the details of the Beats Studio 3 Amazon sale. Beats Studio 3 On Sale

Shopping Bags

About The Beats Studio 3 Sale

Beats by Dr. Dre, have a number of editions, however, the Beats Studio 3 is the most complete version. Usually, the price of the Studio 3 headphones is $349, with sale prices at $299. However, Amazon currently has a couple of Beats headphones going for $149.

Beats Studio 3 On Sale

If you are good with either

  • Matte Black
  • Shadow Grey
  • White

you can get the headphones for $149.  The other colors range in price from $229 to $249.

About The Beats Studio 3 Headphones

With the Studio 3 headphones, you get

  • Pure Adaptive Noise Cancelling (Pure ANC) actively blocks external noise.

If you are a public transit commuter, noise canceling is something you just can’t live without.

  • Up to 22 hours of battery life enables full-featured all-day wireless playback

This is especially nice because just 10 min charge can get you 3 hours of playback.  For that long trip, it doesn’t take much to keep these headphones going.

  • Take calls, control music, and activate Siri with multifunction on-ear controls

For these features, yes you can take calls, however, if you are in a noisy area the mic pick’s up all the sound around you, so I would suggest not using them as a mic unless you are in a very quiet area. The outer earpiece does have easy-to-use controls, so you don’t have to get your device to change the volume or song. For those who are using an iOS device with the Studio 3, it will also let you activate Siri from the headphones.

  • The Studio 3 headphones are for any Bluetooth device (Not only Apple).

I bring this up, as I was asked if they can be used with Windows machines, or with Android since Beats is owned by Apple.  Yes, these headphones work great with any Bluetooth device, or any device with an audio jack, as the Studio 3 headphones also come with a 3.5mm cable.

Final Thought

For starters, this is NOT a paid post by Beats or by Apple. As an owner of a pair, they are great and for the price, if you were thinking about it, this is the time to buy a pair.

A regular question that comes up involves, “How do you clean your screen/equipment?”.  There are many ways to clean your equipment, and from what I have seen, not all options are a good thing.

We have seen users clean with everything from glass cleaners to disinfectant wipes. Usually, it involves, spraying directly onto the computer, tablet, phone, keyboard, or screen. For starters, DON’T EVER DO THAT!!!! NEVER EVER SPRAY ANY LIQUID DIRECTLY ONTO EQUIPMENT!!!!!

Equipment getting liquid inside, is one of the biggest reasons for failure techs see.

Proper Way To Clean Equipment

For starters, cleaning any electronics should involve a microfiber cloth and the liquid used should be Ammonia-Free and Alcohol-Free. When cleaning, you should be spraying the microfiber cloth and then wipe the equipment to clean it.  If possible, have 2 microfiber clothes, so that you can use 1 as your “wet” cloth that you spray on, and 1 as your “dry” cloth that you follow up with.

The product that Tech Geek and More uses for cleaning equipment is the Sensei LCD Cleaning Kit Plus. The kit includes

  • 11.75 x 11.75″ Microfiber Cloth

The current price (screenshot via B&H) of $8.49 makes it a very affordable solution to meet your equipment cleaning needs.

This is a minor update, but due to the 2 security flaws addressed, it is important to make sure to update your Mac.

About macOS Ventura 13.0.1

macOS 13.0.1 is the first public update to macOS Venture since its release.  The update is considered a minor update, that addresses some bug fixes.  Apple doesn’t always specify bug fixes, but some could involve wi-fi issues reported by users who updated to the original macOS Venture update.

In addition, this update also includes 2 security flaw fixes, which are

  • libxml2

Available for: macOS Ventura

Impact: A remote user may be able to cause unexpected app termination or arbitrary code execution

Description: An integer overflow was addressed through improved input validation.

CVE-2022-40303: Maddie Stone of Google Project Zero

  • libxml2

Available for: macOS Ventura

Impact: A remote user may be able to cause unexpected app termination or arbitrary code execution

Description: This issue was addressed with improved checks.

CVE-2022-40304: Ned Williamson and Nathan Wachholz of Google Project Zero

Security flaw updates are important, as arbitrary code execution, means someone not directly on your machine could install something on it that you don’t want.  Just because you are on a Mac does not mean you don’t have to worry about malware.

How To Update to macOS Venture 13.0.1

If you have updated to the initial macOS Venture update, you will find that updating the OS is slightly different now.  To update macOS Venture

  • Go to the  Apple menu and choose “System Settings

How To: Apps That Access Your Twitter

3rd Party Apps That Access Your Twitter

There are many 3rd party apps out in cyberspace for Twitter users. Usually, you will find a 3rd party app for some specific purpose, like having 1 app show you multiple Twitter feeds. The problem is when you stop using a specific 3rd party app for Twitter, did you remember to remove the permission you granted it? Today’s post will cover how to check 3rd party apps that have access to your Twitter.

How To

From Tweeten to Buffer to Crowdfire, and many others, there are numerous 3rd party apps to improve your Twitter experience. You may use a 3rd party app for a while and then move on to something else. The problem for most people is that they forget to remove the access for the 3rd party app they are no longer using. The following steps will go over how to check what 3rd party apps have access. Plus how to remove the ones you no longer need.

Checking 3rd Party App Access On Twitter

For starters, you need to log into Twitter itself to check what apps have access. Once you log in to Twitter follow these steps

  • On the left side, click on More, which should be at the bottom of the list.

Twitter main page

  • In the window that opens click on Settings and Privacy

Twitter settings and privacy

  • Now click on Security and account access -> Apps and sessions.

Twitter security and acct settings

  • Finally in the next window you see, click on Connected apps, under Apps and sessions.

Twitter apps and sessions

This will show you what 3rd Party Apps have access to your Twitter account.

Twitter 3rd party apps

Seeing The 3rd Party Apps – What Do you Do?

Go through your list, do you recognize and use everything that is listed? For anything, you don’t recognize or you no longer use, click on the app from the list. You will see the name come up, tell you what access the app has, and allow you to Revoke Access.

Twitter 3rd party apps revoke

Final Thought

Even if most of these 3rd party apps are “harmless”, it’s always a great idea to stay on top of your security settings. Limit what has access to your accounts to only those apps that need to. Worse case, if you remove something and then figure out you still need it, all you will have to do is relink it to Twitter next time you sign in to that 3rd party app.

How To: Check Active Sessions Twitter

Check Active Sessions Twitter

At times, you may connect to Twitter on a device that isn’t yours. From logging on your work PC to logging on using a friend’s tablet. Twitter active sessions

You can select each session and log out 1 by1 or you can select Log Out All Other Sessions, which will log you out of everything except the session you are on.

Some Things To Keep In Mind

There are a few things from this list to keep in mind.

  • If you see cities / countries you have never been to? You may want to consider logging out of all sessions, and then changing your password. If you don’t have 2 Factory Authentication set up, you may want to get that set up as well.
  • Logging out of a session will prevent further actions from that session such as Tweeting, Liking, and replying. It’s possible it may not delete data (e.g., Direct Messages) that was previously cached on the device while the session was active.

Final Thought

You have to stay on top of your settings to keep your accounts secure. Regularly monitoring things like active sessions for Twitter is an important step in making sure your Twitter account stays secure.

How To: Scheduling An Email To Send Later

Scheduling An Email To Send Later

In this global communication age, being able to schedule an email to send at a later time is a necessity for many people. From not disturbing co-workers in the middle of the night to making sure an email being sent across the world arrives at a time that it will be seen, there are many reasons why email scheduling is needed. Today’s post will explain how to schedule emails in Outlook desktop and web clients. Scheduling An Email To Send Later

How To

Email scheduling is something that a lot of people need regardless of whether they use a dedicated desktop email client or the web application. We are focusing on Outlook in this post because it is the defacto application used by many business and home users.

Scheduling Email Using Outlook Desktop App

For those who use the Outlook desktop client, there is already a built-in feature to schedule emails. The problem is that the scheduling feature isn’t clearly labeled, so you may not even realize you have it.

On the desktop application, Microsoft labeled its email scheduling feature as Outlook Delay Delivery. The following steps are pretty much the same if you are using Outlook 365, Outlook 2016, or Outlook 2013. To schedule an email

  • Open the Microsoft Outlook
  • Click on the New Email button located on the top left corner of your Outlook ribbon. It will open a new compose email window
  • Add the receipt email address(es) to the email, and complete the email, just like you would normally.
  • At this point, to schedule the email, click on the Options Tab -> followed by the Delay Delivery button

Outlook Schedule email screenshot

  • In the window that opens, you will see a section for Delivery Options. In that section look for and enter the date and time you want the message delivered next to the line Do not deliver before

Outlook delay delivery screen

  • Once you close have entered the info, click the close button on the window. That will take you back to the email you are composing. At this point, just hit send once you finish composing the email. The email will send on whatever date and time you entered in the delayed delivery window.
A couple of things to keep in mind using this feature on the Outlook desktop app
  • The email will sit in your Outbox folder until the send date/time
  • Your system should be powered on during the time you have scheduled to send the email. The email is physically on your computer, so if the computer is off, it won’t send until you turn it back on.
  • The Internet needs to be working on your computer during the time you have scheduled to send. Again, the email is on your computer, if you don’t have internet, how can Outlook send it.
  • The send date and time you scheduled is going to use the date and time on your computer. Make sure the date and time on your computer are accurate.
NOTE For Mac Outlook Desktop Users
  • Unfortunately, the Mac users who have the Outlook Desktop App. Scheduling email sending is only available if you are using a business (Exchange) email account. If you are accessing your ISP, @outlook, @gmail, or any other provider email via the Outlook Desktop app, you currently can’t schedule email sending.

Scheduling Email Using Outlook On The Web

For those who use Outlook on the web, scheduling email is much easier. Use the following steps to schedule from Outlook on the web.

  • Log into Outlook on the web, and start a new email message. Once you have composed your message look at the send button on the bottom You will see a down arrow, just to the right of the send button.
  • Click the down arrow and then select send later

  • In the window that opens, you can select one of the options shown, or click on Custom Time, to enter your own date and time info for the email to be sent.

Outlook web schedule email

  • Once you enter the scheduled date and time hit send from this window, and the email will be scheduled to be sent.
A couple of things to keep in mind using this feature on Outlook on the web
  • The email is saved on the Outlook web server, not your computer.  So your computer DOES NOT need to be on during the scheduled time.
  • You don’t need to have internet during the scheduled send time, only Microsoft does, as the email is being sent from their online system.

So this does have advantages compared to the Outlook desktop app.

Scheduling An Email To Send Later

Final Thought

Hopefully, this information will help you not have to wake up in the middle of the night just to send an email.

Nintendo Wii U / 3DS Gaming eShop Being Discontinued

If you are a user of either the Nintendo Wii U or the 3DS family of gaming systems, Nintendo has made an announcement that will affect you.  Today’s post will review the announcement by Nintendo that they will be ending the eShop for the Wii U and 3DS systems. Gaming: Nintendo Wii U / 3DS Announcement

Nintendo WiiNintendo 3DSAccording to the post on the Nintendo Customer Support Portal, the eShop will be coming to the end of life starting in May 2022 and be fully discontinued by March 2023.  According to the announcement, the following systems are affected

  • New Nintendo 3DS
  • New Nintendo 3DS XL
  • New Nintendo 2DS XL
  • Nintendo 3DS XL
  • Nintendo 2DS
  • Nintendo Wii Deluxe
  • Nintendo Wii Basic

What Will Be Changing – eShop

What will be happening, according to the information posted by Nintendo

  • As of May 23, 2022 (so this year), you will no longer be able to add funds to your account on the Wii U or 3DS systems eShop via credit card.  That doesn’t affect any existing balances, just means you cant add funds via a credit card.
  • As of Auguest 29th, 2022 (also this year), you will no longer be able to add funds via a Nintendo eShop Card. At this point, whatever your balance is on the eShop for Wii and 3DS users will be all you have to work with.  Once that balance runs out, you will be out of luck for new purchases.
  • In late March 2023, the eShop services will close for new purchases all together. So Wii and 3DS users will need to do their shopping for new items prior to this point.

Of note, the changes will only affect new purchases on Nintendo Wii and 3DS. Users will still be able to purchase items if they are using Nintendo Switch systems. In addition, per the Nintendo Announcement

Even after late March 2023, and for the foreseeable future, it will still be possible to redownload games and DLC, receive software updates and enjoy online play on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

This means the Wii and 3DS systems aren’t completely being killed off, only the ability to add new purchases.

Final Thought

According to Nintendo,

This is part of the natural lifecycle for any product line as it becomes less used by consumers over time.

So for those of you who still enjoy your Wii or 3DS system, make sure you add anything you are considering buying before March 2023. Gaming: Nintendo Wii U / 3DS Announcement
