Mix Messages In Internet Security
The million-dollar question: HOW MUCH DO YOU TRUST AN AI CHAT? According to a post on October 10th, 2026, by Elon Musk, you should completely trust it. Please DON’T! Today’s post will go over AI myths vs. AI reality.
How Things Have Changed In 1 Century
Please note the sarcasm in that headline (kind of). For those of us old enough to grow up in the 1980s or earlier, we were told
- Never get in a car with someone you don’t know
- Don’t talk to strangers
- Don’t sit too close to the TV; it will ruin your eyesight
So now, in the 21st century, what do we do?
- Have an app that tells someone we don’t know that we need to get into their car
- Social Media – Need I say more
- From computer monitors to smart devices to VR, how much screen time do we have daily now?
The other thing I remember learning is that I needed to protect my information, such as your
- drivers license
- social security
and
- financial information (IE – your bank account and credit cards)
However, that has also apparently changed as well. With the development of AI and personal assistants on your devices, it’s now OK to give up that information as well. At least according to the richest person on Earth, Mr. Elon Musk. This is his actual post from X on Saturday, October 10th, 2026.
To buy stuff, you can just take a picture of your credit card, drop it in the chat and Grok @Bot will scour the Internet for the best deal on the item you want and order it

Funny thing is, specific to Grok, its own documentation says you should take precautions before providing such information. In the Grok bot terms of service, section 2.3

It basically says Grok could screw up, and it is up to you, the end user of the assistant, to review what the AI is doing. It also says in the next section, which is section 2.4 (Duh!)

We may NOT be lawyers, DO NOT claim to be lawyers, and have NO legal basis for the next comment except for learning to read and common sense. In section 2.4, X AI (as in Grok) says they are NOT responsible for anything that happens while you use Grok. Unless, of course, you can prove “Gross Negligence or Willful Misconduct”. How do you prove either of those things when they say AGENTIC ACTIONS ARE PROBABILISTIC AND MAY CONTAIN ERRORS……. that line alone is the excuse to say “Our Bad”.
What Does Another AI Say About Sharing Credit Card Information
It is actually funny, the mixed messages you get when you ask AI about providing your credit card information. The following is the answer given by ChatGPT -6 via Duck.ai

The key parts of the response from ChatGPT -6
- Don’t give AI your credit card, CVV code, PIN, or any one-time passcodes.
- If you have a payment, make sure you are on the correct page, and you make the payment yourself.
- DON’T UPLOAD A PICTURE OR SCREENSHOT OF YOUR PAYMENT INFORMATION
And if you have already done any of those things, you should lock your accounts, freeze your credit, and contact card issuers promptly to get cards replaced.
And there are already examples of AI doing things users didn’t expect. Like the user using MUSE, the Meta AI, had the AI give out the user’s home address to a stranger. From PC Magazine – Muse AI Shared Someone’s Address.
Final Thought
For AI to be fully helpful, you must give up your information. That information will then leave your control and fall into the hands of whatever tech company has the AI you choose to use. Asking basic questions doesn’t require you to give up information; having it check your emails, banking, photos, and other personal items gives your information to others. This is NOT a standard yes or no answer; this is something that each person has to figure out: how much of my personal life do I want to give up control to, with the probability that I may never fully get control of that information again. Remember, once your information makes it to the cloud, AI, or any tech company’s computers, it is no longer in your control, and you are at the mercy of what that tech company will do with your information both now and in the future.
