And More! Don’t you wish you would have kept your old Video Games. Nintendo NES sells for 13k on eBay.

nintendo-entertainment-system As a kid I had a couple of Atari Systems (2600) (Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_2600 (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/Atari_2600)) 5200 (Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_5200 (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/Atari_5200)), an Intellivision (Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intellivision (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/Intellivision)) , and a ColecoVision (Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ColecoVision (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/ColecoVision)).  All the systems included countless games, that were very much fun, and I think the reason that I got into Technology in the 1st place.  However, now as an adult, if I knew then what I know now, boy would I be making a lot of $$$$$$$ money.

Up for auction is an original Nintendo NES gaming system with 1 hand control.  There are 5 games with it. They are, Family & Fitness Stadium Events in the original box with the dust jacket inside of the box, Major League Baseball in the original box with the dust jacket inside of the box, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 the arcade game in the original box with the dust jacket inside of the box, Super Mario 3 in the original box with the dust jacket inside of the box and the original game, Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt.  I have had this stored in the closet for years for my kids to play but the way that electronics come & go and change from one year to the next they wanted all of the new hot items of their own now and now it’s time to get rid of things that are no longer being used or wanted.  This system worked perfect when i stored it but somehow over the years, we have managed to misplace the AC cord & the television hook up.  I am listing this and selling without hook up but it I find them, I’ll send them along with the rest at no additional charges to you. Please keep in mind though that any ac cord will work with this and the hook up from a VCR would hook it up just as well as the original cords!

It seems one of the games offered draw all the attention.  The game called Stadium Events (From Bandai) is a rare find for collectors of the rare.  The following explains why (Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Events (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/Stadium_Events))

Rarity

The North American, or NTSC (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/NTSC), version of Stadium Events is universally accepted as the rarest licensed NES game (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_Entertainment_System_games) available for purchase in North America.[2] (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/#cite_note-1)[3] (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/#cite_note-2)[4] (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/#cite_note-3)[5] (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/#cite_note-4) It was recently named #6 on a list of 20 "Holy Grails of Console Gaming"[6] (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/#cite_note-5), a list that covered all gaming systems in all countries. The reason for its rarity and subsequent high market price[7] (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/#cite_note-6)[8] (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/#cite_note-7)[9] (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/#cite_note-8) is due to its limited production and sales.[10] (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/#cite_note-racketboy NULL.com-9) At the time of its launch during the holiday season of 1987, Stadium Events was only available at Northern-region Woolworth’s Department Store (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/F NULL._W NULL._Woolworth_Company), which was a test market for Bandai (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/Bandai).[11] (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/#cite_note-the-nextlevel NULL.com-10) In 1988, Nintendo (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/Nintendo) purchased the North American rights to the FFF mat technology and re-released it as the Power Pad (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/Power_Pad). The two Family Fun Fitness-branded games that had already been released, as well as Bandai’s version of the running pad accessory, were pulled from shelves and presumed destroyed. Because of this odd sequence of events, only 2000 copies are believed to have been produced, of which it is estimated that 200 copies reached consumers before being recalled.[10] (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/#cite_note-racketboy NULL.com-9) Today, collectors who follow the online sale of rare video games believe that fewer than 10 complete copies of the game exist, only one of which is factory sealed. An eBay auction of a NES console along with a copy of the game with manual and box landed the seller a winning bid of $13,105 on February 13, 2010.[12] (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/#cite_note-11)

So with that said look in your closets, storage units, and everywhere else that you keep your old stuff.  You may just be holding onto a lot of $$$$$$.

Software: Windows BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) 0×0000000A Fix

microsoft Ever since I started using Windows 7, I was sold as it being one of the best releases Microsoft has had.  I have it installed on all 3 of my machines, plus have installed it on pre-existing pc’s for dozens of clients.  So far until recently I have had no major issues reported by anyone.  That is until recently.  I have had a few clients call me telling me that they have had random Blue Screens of Death that pop up after they use the computer for a while.  It has happened only on a handful of clients but when it does, they see the STOP: 0×0000000A error message.

Blue Screen error

One of the most common inside jokes by techs is “Its not happening on my pc”, unfortunately for me, even I have started seeing this error on 1 of Windows 7 pc’s.  As I have discovered, it seems that Microsoft is also aware of this Windows 7 error as they have a knowledge base article (KB: 979444) which was just release on February 8, 2010 (LINK: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979444 (http://support NULL.microsoft NULL.com/kb/979444)).  The issue (based on the article)  affects

  • Windows 7 Enterprise
  • Windows 7 Home Basic
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Windows 7 Professional
  • Windows 7 Ultimate
  • Windows HPC Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
  • Windows Web Server 2008 R2
  •

According to the KB, Microsoft says

This issue occurs because Power Manager opens an Advanced local procedure call (ALPC) port. However, Power Manager closes another port instead of closing the ALPC port. Every time that a power request is made, a memory leak occurs. When the leaked memory usage accumulates to a certain level, the computer crashes

If you are suffering a periodic 0×0000000A Blue Screen error, you can request the Hot Fix for Free from Microsoft by going to the Hot Fix request page for KB: 979444 (LINK: http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=979444&kbln=en-us (http://support NULL.microsoft NULL.com/hotfix/KBHotfix NULL.aspx?kbnum=979444&kbln=en-us)) where you will be asked to provide you email.  Once you will out the form, you will receive the actual download link, via the email address you provide.  The Hot Fix is specific to this issue, so it will NOT be included during Windows Update.

As of the installation of this Hot Fix, no one has reported the blue screen again. Including yours truly.

    Call Timer on BlackBerry Curve

blackberry_logo If your like me, you like to know how much time you spend on a call after you end it. This is particularly useful for business people who need to know how much time they spend on a support call, etc for time logging purposes. Up until now, on Blackberry Curves, you have to navigate your way through the menus, go to call history, find the call you were just on, go to the menu again and show details… All to just see how much time you spent on the last call.

There is a new software update for Blackberry Curves that now show an active call timer on the screen during and after the call.

To update your Blackberry, go to www.blackberry.com (http://www NULL.blackberry NULL.com) and download the "Blackberry Desktop Manager" tool. Once you download and install, connect your Blackberry to your PC via the USB cable provided with your phone. If you have password protection on your phone, you will be prompted when running the software.

Choose "Application Loader" from the main menu and choose "Update Software". Proceed through the wizard to update your phone’s software (this can typically take anywhere from 5-30 minutes depending on how old your software is).

You should update your phone’s software at least once a month to apply any updates/fixes to your Blackberry. This increases performance, reliability, and sometimes you’ll see new features here & there..

    Enjoy…

WEB: Facebook Lite (Simple version of Facebook)

facebook One of the biggest questions I seem to getting recently is “how do I configure Facebook, so that I don’t have to deal with anything about farms, mafia, or any other thing that I don’t use and don’t care about”.  Since my use of Facebook is to communicate with people and not for the games, I can completely understand those who would like to use a “Simple” version of Facebook.

Since the end of 2009, Facebook has a “lite” version which they advertise as the version for those still on dial-up or slow internet connections.  However, the “lite” version can be used by anyone, no matter what your internet speed is.  What you get is Facebook without the extra bloat (Bloat to me because I don’t care for the games and extras) that the full version gives you.

If you visit Facebook at (LINK) http://lite.facebook.com/ (http://lite NULL.facebook NULL.com/) you will see a cleaner easier to navigate Facebook. Just keep in mind that if you are a Farmville or Mafia Wars or any of the other games and add’-on’s for Facebook, then the lite version isnt for you since you will lose access to those features.

You can even move your account to open directly to the lite version or to prompt you as to which version you which to use (for those who wish to jump back and forth), by visiting (LINK) http://lite.facebook.com/settings/defaultsite/ (http://lite NULL.facebook NULL.com/settings/defaultsite/) once you are signed into your Facebook account, and selecting the option that best meets your needs.

    image

You will see a big difference in the amount of space used on your screen when comparing the 2 versions. See for yourself if lite Facebook will work for you.  Lite Facebook may actually make Facebook enjoyable to those not raising cows, or trying to kill someone (Pun Intended here!).

TGM: (1/31) Update on the latest changes to TechGeekandMore

TGM The New TechGeekandMore changes are coming along.  If you would like to follow TGM via Twitter or RSS you can now access the Twitter and RSS feeds for TechGeekandMore using the icons on the top right of the TechGeekandMore site.

    image image

Simply click on either of the links and you will automatically taken to either the TGM Twitter or RSS feed page, where you can sign up to follow TechGeekandMore.

Another change involves being able to contact TechGeekandMore, and now if you would like to send a message to TGM you can very easily.

    image

If you scroll down the right side any page you will see the listing for TechGeekandMore pages.  There you can click on the “Contact TechGeekandMore” link which will send you to the TGM form.  Questions, comments, requests are always welcomed.  This is in addition to comments that can still be left at the bottom of any posting.

In addition you will now see at the bottom of the TGM blog a few banners ads for TechGeekandMore partners.  Currently the banner listed is for iDrive. TGM became a partner for iDrive because everyone should be backing up their computers and iDrive makes it simple and inexpensive. For the record, if you sign up for iDrive via the TGM banner, TGM will receive a small payment per person who uses the TGM banner. TGM values its reputation and limit ads to specific areas of the site, where they will be clearly listed, and will only recommend items or have ads for items that TGM knows will benefit its readers.  We will NOT have ads just for ads sake.

    image

Finally, if you scroll down the page of TechGeekandMore, you will also see a link to Donate to TechGeekandMore.  TGM was started with the goal of informing and helping as many people as possible to understand the language of Tech.  To most users, talking about Technology issues is like talking a foreign language.  However, there are some expenses with running TGM, and a lot of time and heart put into trying to make TGM informative and helpful to those who visit. As a user, I hate going to sites, trying to read a story, that is broken into pieces in between tons of ads.  It is our hope and goal to never do that to TGM, but we like everyone else have bills to pay. So if you are a reader of TGM and have been helped by something you have seen here on TGM, I am asking for a donation to help keep TechGeekandMore going.
