TGM: Big Change coming to TechGeekandMore

work_in_progress

TGM When I started TechGeekandMore (TGM) 11 months ago, the idea I had was to have some way that I could relate my knowledge of technology to a some of my clients, friends and family members, since with technology its seems the questions are the same no matter if it comes from a business person, a long time friend, or your brother. “I clicked on something, and now my computer is ………” is as common as “How are you” to most techs.

Honestly when TGM started I never figured it to more than a hobby.  However, with the questions, requests, and visitors (Not all of which are related to me) that come in everyday, not only is the site more than I ever expected, it’s reached a point where TechGeekandMore is growing up.

Starting today, and over the next couple of days, TGM is moving to its own hosting provider.  TGM v2, will be able to offer more features, (as soon as everything is running at our new host) and hopefully help inform more people about Technology in simple terms, which is at the core of what TGM will always be.

I just ask the readers of TGM to have a little patients while we get everything moved over, I think you will like what the new v2 TGM site will offer. Thank you for visiting TechGeekandmore

UPDATE: To TechGeekandMore

Due to a sudden amount of additional work in my “real” job, I have been unable to get time to post this past week.  This past week included me spending a few days in the Colorado Springs, Co. area.  Let me tell you that trip was cold.  I know I leave in the Northeast but when when your at 6,035 ft in altitude, somehow 1 degree Fahrenheit just seems so much colder, especially when your outdoors for most of the time.  I will be posting pictures shortly.

With that being said things are back under control and we should be back to a normal schedule here at TGM.

Thank you for (as always) for visiting TechGeekandMore.

TGM News: Hello Everyone – New Feature to TGM

questions1

A new feature starting this week on TechGeekandMore. I’m asking for questions from the readers.  Issues with pc (Tech Support) or if you have questions or need recommendations on a purchase, or if your just looking for my opinion. Questions need to be received by each Friday and I will post answers to as many questions as possible by the following Monday.

All questions can be submitted to TechGeekandMore (at) gmail (dot) com.

Airline: Wi-fi at 39,000 Feet

For yours being on a plane meant that you were out of communications range for a few hours.  That may be a good thing if you “want to get away” (as a Southwest Airlines puts it) but when you need to stay in touch with your office and do work, especially when your a computer tech being out of range is like being in a void.  The hours on the plane just mean that you will have that many more emails (for me its about 90) to respond to once you land.  It seems now, in an effort to give customers something “extra” and also make money (you don’t think this is going to be free do you), the airlines are now all rushing to make their planes wifi hotspots (above 10,000 feet of course).  I’ve been hearing that the prices will range from $9.99 to $19.99 depending on the airline and the length of the flight.  The Today Show, had a story this morning from somewhere over Maine.  You can find the story at http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/30697366#30697366 (http://today NULL.msnbc NULL.msn NULL.com/id/26184891/vp/30697366#30697366) . Somehow I don’t think they will allow us to webcam when they rolls out but it would be sweet if they did (That’s just my opinion).

Travel: Road Warrior Adventure – Trip to KC

AG00165_      Today was supposed to be an easy day.  Only thing to worry about was getting to the airport on time to get to my flight (US Air 4091 – 1:20 scheduled departure out of Philadelphia).  I arrived at 11am, and we had showers, nothing that would make you think that today would be a mess. BUT SURPRISE –

Flights from US Air today out of Philadelphia have been met by cancellations at what I think is a high rate.

  • So now the challenge  Go via St Louis (Land in STL and then drive 3 1/2 hours, nope (Women’s Final 4 – I Think so no cars to rent).
  • Go via Charlotte, Nope (Only a 20% chance I would make my connector).
  • Take the flight to DC and then get the connector to KC (At least if i miss this one I can drive home tonight).

(Believe it or not as I type this I now see sunshine).  The one thing I would say is that for all the weather days you get in the Northeast, you would figure that someone would have a procedures for handling it. I don’t know if they do or don’t but …

IMAGE_485 IMAGE_489 This is what it looks like when a bunch of flights all get canceled at the same time. About 30 people in front of me

Another 10 behind me, and that is after they sent a large part of the line to another counter. (Which was about 1/2 mile away, I kid you not!)

(*TIP)With the road warrior experience, I got out of line, called the US Air Ticket Center (800-428-4322 if you ever need it, and select 4 for existing flights within the US and Canada).  They picked up within 3 minutes which really isn’t all that bad (at least if i compare it to the line above) and had me rebooked before the line had even moved.

At least I can get online with my PDAnet software (its $7.99 a day for airport Wi-Fi).

Happy Birthday WWW – Turning 20

On March 13, 1989 a man by the name of Tim Berners–Lee had an idea. He presented his idea in a paper called “Information Management: A Proposal”. His paper turned out to become the World Wide Web.  With a smile I say Thank you to Mr. Berners-Lee and Happy Birthday World wide web.
