Hello everyone,

     Thank you for visiting TechGeekandMore.com (TGM). Over that past year and a half, this project has taken a life of its own.  When I 1st started TGM, I figured that it could be a way that I could keep my tech skills sharp, while allowing me to pass helpful information to family, friends, and whomever stumbled across my little ol’ site.  Honestly the fact that I now average about 5000 page views a month still BLOWS MY MIND (OK that may still seem like a small number to some but to me its huge). 

     Since I can remember, as soon as someone found out that I’m a computer guy when shopping or at a party or just out on the street, I would always get the “Oh can I ask you a question”…….  I guess its the same thing if your a doctor, or lawyer, or well you get the idea.  Many of the posts on TGM since the beginning started with someone “asking a question” when I was out and about. 

     As well as running TGM, I too and a constant web surfer, and when I surf, I hate going to sites where you have to search for the story among all the ads or even worse ads in between each paragraph of the story that I’m reading. I always said that I wanted to keep TGM different.  So far TGM shows 1 ad and it is located at the bottom of the main page.  The ad is for iDrive, a very good online backup service that TGM recommends.  TGM is a paid partner/reseller for iDrive, however, we would still recommend it even if we weren’t.

     Now comes the part when I need to ask those of you who visit TGM for help.  I don’t want to make TGM look like all the other sites, filled with ads all over the place, but the costs of running TGM is getting a little high and even though I am a computer “Geek”, in this economy I’m not getting paid (from my real job) like I used to be.  So I’m asking those visitors to TGM that can afford to donate anything at all ($1, $2, $5, $10, or anything at all), if you could please consider helping me and TGM out.  On the top right corner of the site you will see the “Help Support TGM” donate button.  This will lead to the PayPal page for TGM, your donations are secure thru PayPal.  

      I hope that TechGeekandMore has been able to help resolve your computer issues, or at least educate you so that your tech life is a little easier.  With your help, I hope to be able to continue this.

     Another change involves being able to contact TechGeekandMore, and now if you would like to send a message to TGM you can very easily. 

If you scroll down the right side any page you will see the listing for TechGeekandMore pages.  There you can click on the “Contact TechGeekandMore” link which will send you to the TGM form.  Questions, comments, requests are always welcomed.  This is in addition to comments that can still be left at the bottom of any posting. 

     In addition you will now see at the bottom of the TGM blog a few banners ads for TechGeekandMore partners.  Currently the banner listed is for iDrive. TGM became a partner for iDrive because everyone should be backing up their computers and iDrive makes it simple and inexpensive. For the record, if you sign up for iDrive via the TGM banner, TGM will receive a small payment per person who uses the TGM banner. TGM values its reputation and limit ads to specific areas of the site, where they will be clearly listed, and will only recommend items or have ads for items that TGM knows will benefit its readers.  We will NOT have ads just for ads sake.

     Finally, if you scroll down the page of TechGeekandMore, you will also see a link to Donate to TechGeekandMore.  TGM was started with the goal of informing and helping as many people as possible to understand the language of Tech.  To most users, talking about Technology issues is like talking a foreign language.  However, there are some expenses with running TGM, and a lot of time and heart put into trying to make TGM informative and helpful to those who visit. As a user, I hate going to sites, trying to read a story, that is broken into pieces in between tons of ads.  It is our hope and goal to never do that to TGM, but we like everyone else have bills to pay. So if you are a reader of TGM and have been helped by something you have seen here on TGM, I am asking for a donation to help keep TechGeekandMore going.  

When I started TGM at the end of February 2009, it was started as a simple hobby. I really never figured that I would get more than a few family members and maybe some co-workers/clients following it.  I guess I got a little more than what I expected. As noticed in the final stats for 2009, with 1 little exception (and even that one was close), TGM has grown every month since it started. 

I guess a special thanks is in order to Apple, Cisco, McAfee, and CA for having issues with their software.

Which helped inspire the creation of TGM so that questions, that I heard everyday (multiple times a day) would be answered in a form that even the most non-technical person can understand.

 

     Welcome to Tech Geek and More! My name is Alex and I have been a professional Geek and a Road Warrior Geek for the past 15 yrs, recently I started thinking maybe I should put some of the geek that bounces in my head all the time on paper (Digitally that is) and I also figured  I could use this same space to share some of my adventures current and past adventures.  There are something’s that “No one seems to believe so maybe if I post it, I can prove that life is nothing less then an adventure as a road warrior”.     I have been a Professional Geek since the days when AOL was the Internet.  Since the Mid 1990’s, (Gee I suddenly feel old) I have managed systems at a Major Hotel, Installed POS (That’s Point of sale not Piece of …..) for a couple of Major POS makers all over North America, and managed computer systems at a Major League Baseball Stadium.  I am not Academically Trained….I explain to people that I am a Geek with street smarts. I pride myself on being able to hold conversations with fellow geeks who are academically trained while at the same time being able to translate the geek and explain a geek issue in simple English or Spanish to a completely non-technical person and be able to have that person understand just as easily.
