Solution For TrendMicro Software Not Uninstalling

Ran into an issue this week while trying to uninstall TrendMicro Titanium 2012, it would not uninstall. The client I was assisting had paid for TrendMicro a year ago, so the subscription was just about to expire. The client has decided to go to another option instead of renewing with TrendMicro. As I attempted to uninstall TrendMicro 2012, I kept coming across the same error “Unable to Remove Your Security Software”. The error says that I needed to “restart computer before trying again”, which I tried a number of times. Each time I attempted the uninstall, the same message would appear.

While searching for a solution, I discovered that this seems to happen to many versions of the TrendMicro software. Also found that TrendMicro has on its website (even though it isn’t that easy to find) a stand alone program that you can use if the standard uninstaller does not want to work. The TrendMicro Diagnostic Tool Kit can be used to forcefully remove all traces of the TrendMicro software. These are the instructions to download and use the toolkit (via TrendMicro (http://esupport NULL.trendmicro NULL.com/Pages/how-do-i-remove-trend-micro-internet-security-pro-and-trend-micro-inte NULL.aspx)) for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

If you encounter an error using this tool or if it fails, check this solution: How do I uninstall my Trend Micro program if the removal tool fails? (http://esupport NULL.trendmicro NULL.com/solution/en-us/1038848 NULL.aspx)

Conclusion

If you are having trouble removing TrendMicro, this toolkit does exactly what it says it will. Worked for all computers that I had to uninstall with no issues.
