How to Configure iPhone/iPad Mail App For Gmail (IMAP)

The following configuration steps come by request. It seems that for some the Text in the Gmail app for the iPhone is just to small. Unfortunately, the Gmail app does not have a setting to increase the text size and the change text size setting in iOS does not affect 3rd party apps like the Gmail app.   The following steps will allow you to configure the Mail App for iOS to use Gmail.

To configure the ‘Mail’ app on an Apple device for access to Gmail, just follow these steps:

  • Make sure you’ve enabled IMAP (http://mail NULL.google NULL.com/support/bin/answer NULL.py?answer=77695) in your main Gmail settings
  • Open the Settings app on your device

  • Enter your account information, being sure to use your full Gmail address, including ‘@gmail.com’ (or your full Google Apps email account @yourcompanyname.com)

  • Tap Next
  • Tap Save

And that’s how you add a Gmail account using the Mail App on the iPhone or iPad
